Why I Love New Orleans: the Restaurant Culture
New Orleans is a restaurant town. Yes, everyone has their own version of gumbo or red beans and rice that they cook at home... BUT there is nothing like our restaurant culture. From Commander's Palace to Dooky Chase Restaurant, we LOVE to eat and dine in this city! Where chefs are celebrities, servers/bartenders are known by their first name and many New Orleanians are regular restaurant patrons. People come from all over just for our restaurant experience. There are many favorite restaurants throughout the city that tourists know about, but there are other restaurants, off the beaten path, that should be discovered and savored.
That is why we are so excited for Eat Nola Noir's New Orleans Black Restaurant Week from February 12-24th!! Creole, Soul Food, Caribbean and African! Black Restaurant week has launched in other cities like Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, Detroit and Memphis, with New Orleans next! This is a chance for us foodies to support New Orleans minority owned entrepreneurs during Black History Month. We are excited to try:
- Heard Dat Kitchen - which was recently featured in the Times Picayune
- Sassafras Kitchen in Gentilly
- 14 Parishes Jamaican Restaurant
- Neyow's Creole Cafe
- Tasty Treats
- Backatown Coffee Parlour
and many, many more!
Mrs. Leah Chase taught us that we can all break bread together and celebrate New Orleans' African American restauranteurs, chefs, bakers and bartenders. Eat Nola Noir - WE ARE ALL IN!
Eat NOLA Noir will launch February 12 2018, offering menu options from an array of minority-owned restaurants throughout New Orleans. Options for table reservations and pop-up events will be available as we explore the city's black culinary scene!
